Oasis: A Strong Comeback in the Top Sales and Streams

Since last August 27th, the band Oasis has been at the center of attention. And for the occasion, here’s a brief analysis of their performance in numbers.

According to Oasis‘ official accounts on various social media platforms, Definitely Maybe is currently number 1 in sales in the UK. A remarkable achievement for an album that was released thirty years ago. But that’s not all! In the UK top 5 sales, we also find their second album, (What’s The Story?) Morning Glory, as well as Time Flies… (1994 – 2009), a compilation of the band’s hits.

On the singles side, unsurprisingly, Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back In Anger are among the top 20 most listened-to tracks this week in the UK. But in addition to these two, there is a third song that made its way into this top 20. One might think it would be Champagne Supernova or Stop Crying Your Heart Out, but no—it’s Live Forever that has made the list. A song that perfectly represents the DNA of the band.

The Wonderwall Phenomenon

We all know Wonderwall is THE most popular Oasis song. It was inevitable that after the announcement of their return, the track would be played many times. But even so, the numbers are quite impressive. In just two weeks, Wonderwall was streamed more than 20 million times on Spotify alone! This makes it the 87th most streamed song of all time on the platform. To give you an example, that’s more than Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen or Someone Like You by Adele but less than Cold Heart (Pnau Remix) by Elton John, Dua Lipa, and Pnau or Stay With Me by Sam Smith.

Timeless Albums

Similarly, among the 3 000 most-streamed albums of all time on Spotify, four Oasis albums make the list: (What’s The Story?) Morning Glory, Definitely Maybe, Heathen Chemistry, and Be Here Now.

We’re not going to give you the numbers for each album, but the performance of the band’s second album is quite exceptional. At the time of writing this article, it has been streamed 4,258,873,715 times. This makes it the 165th most-streamed album of all time. And if we compare it solely with British albums, the one just above it in terms of numbers is Back To Black by Amy Winehouse, while the album just below it is Dreamland by Glass Animals.

We were curious to know where Oasis ranks among the most-streamed artists in the world on Spotify. Well, they are 244th, which is a pretty good score. Bring Me The Horizon is 245th, but you’ll never guess who’s 243rd. Yes, just ahead of Oasis is French rapper Jul, with 7,249,294,331 streams.

Add to these figures the fact that more than 5 million people have tried to buy tickets for their concert, and that even the English Parliament has talked about the band. We can definitely talk about a major comeback for Oasis.
